Planning the London open without theatre
UK cash hours reward a short, timed checklist — not a thirty-minute drawing ritual that collapses when the auction starts.
For many UK equity and index traders, the useful work happens in a narrow window before cash open. The mistake we see in coaching is treating that window like a full weekend analysis session: too many timeframes, too many sketches, and then a scramble when the auction prints.
A practical London-open frame we use in sittings:
- Night before: mark the levels that would still matter if nothing else changed overnight. Sleep on them.
- Morning (15–20 minutes): update only what overnight price forced you to revise; rewrite invalidation if needed.
- Final five minutes: decide observe-only versus engage language for the first thirty minutes of cash.
The journal that night should ask whether the morning checklist was followed — not whether the market “felt” busy. Busy is not a plan.
If your preparation routinely overruns into the open, the plan is too long. We shorten it on paper before we talk about discipline. Discipline without a timed ritual is just hope with a headset.
